After IPL 2020 there are many speculations about IPL 2021 and now they declared the latest format of the next season.
IPL 2020 stunned the fans by many of the unique incidences that took place in the tournament. After finishing this season at UAE there were many speculations took place about the upcoming season of the IPL.
However, a few days ago BCCI announced the mega auction might take place before the start of the IPL 2021. Also included adding two new teams in the next season.
BCCI thought that this will bring tough competition in the cash-rich league. Also adding two new teams will provide opportunities to the young players along with revenue generation for the board.
There was a cross-question from the old IPL franchises regarding the addition of two new teams and a mega auction. But BCCI still puts them on hold and decided to plan in their manner.
Moreover, their planning for the 10 teams not yet officially declared but reports cleared that after the Annual General Meeting on 24 December 2020. But reports also clear that they are trying to introduce some new strategies.
It is expected that they will introduce one team in 2021 IPL and another team in 2022 IPL. But it will be a headache for the other teams as auction and player retention problems will take place.
New format of IPL 2021:
1. Changes due to the addition of two new teams:
First of all, there will be a huge change to take place if two teams will add to the tournament. Group-wise matches and then playoffs matches will take place in the IPL i.e similar to IPL 2011.
Nowadays there are eight teams present in the tournament. So league-type matches featured first i.e two matches with each team on home and away stadium. Likewise this makes the total 14 matches should be played by every team and first four teams will qualify for the playoffs.
But if the tournament will feature ten teams then two different groups of 5-5 teams will be done. After then, two matches will be played between each team of the particular group and the first two teams from two groups will qualify for the playoffs.
2. Exclude the playing twice with each team
Therefore, it will increase the complication level of the tournament. As it will exclude having the two matches with every team of the tournament. But competition between the teams will increase a lot.
3. Featuring the mega auction
BCCI thinking to arrange the mega auction before the IPL 2021 as it had added to the AGM agenda. Hence, fans will get the confirmed news about the mega auctions just after finishing the AGM at the end of December.
Henceforth, tentatively IPL 2021 will start at the ending of March or else the first week of April 2021. Also, BCCI is preferring India as a location to host the IPL. Hence, all the questions regarding the T20 tournament will be cleared in the last week of December 2020.
