Yuvraj Singh’s fans were excited to see their hero return to the cricket field and play for Punjab in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2020-21. Unfortunately, Singh did not get a green signal from the BCCI to participate in the T20 competition.
Punjab Cricket Association had named Yuvraj Singh in the list of probables for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. It is noteworthy that Punjab is a four-time runner-up in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. They have not won the title even once.
A champion player like Yuvraj Singh would have bolstered their chances of emerging as the tournament winners for the first time. Nevertheless, Mandeep Singh will lead the side after BCCI declined Yuvraj Singh’s request.
Singh had written a letter to BCCI to allow him to represent Punjab. He would have played a mentor-cum-player’s role for the Punjab cricket team if received the permission. However, it seems like BCCI did not allow his return because he had played in foreign leagues.
Many fans would know that Yuvraj Singh played in the Global T20 Tournament in Canada and T10 League in Abu Dhabi. Currently, he is a part of the Ultimate Kricket Challenge in Dubai. Hence, this could have been the reason behind the denial.
Pravin Tambe had entered IPL 2020 Auction and got a contract from the Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Tambe could not play the tournament as he had played T10 League before. Another interesting to note is that Tambe had to retire from domestic cricket before joining the Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2020.
Because
of the BCCI rules, any Indian player cannot play a foreign league and
remain active in the IPL or domestic tournament. Hence, Yuvraj Singh’s
request might have been rejected by the board because of the same
reasons only.
